FAQ (Common Questions)

1. Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.

You do take your well-functioning car for regular maintenance to keep it running smoothly, right? Consider therapy as the tune-up for your mind, helping you maintain your already well-guarded mental well-being and to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease.

Treat therapy as a lifestyle rather than a remedy for something you’re going through. Therapy isn’t just about addressing problems; it’s also about personal development and self-improvement.

While it’s wonderful that you can handle your problems most of the time, therapy offers a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with the guidance of a trained professional.

Even if you’re adept at handling challenges, therapy can provide valuable insights and perspectives that you may not have considered before. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of yourself, improve your self-awareness, and develop new coping strategies.

2. Do I need to live in North Carolina to have you as my therapist?

No, you don’t need to live in North Carolina to have me as your therapist.

You can book an appointment regardless of your location anywhere. During our initial interview, you can opt for an in-person session if you are in the vicinity or an electronic session if you are at a distance.

This flexibility allows us to connect and work together, regardless of your geographical location.

3. Do you offer online therapy sessions?

Yes, I offer telehealth counseling. These sessions are available for clients within Florida and North Carolina. I ensure privacy and confidentiality during our online sessions by utilizing a secure and HIPAA- and HITECH-compliant virtual therapy platform.

Even though we may not be meeting face-to-face, you can trust that your personal information remains protected. Online therapy provides a convenient and effective way to engage in therapy from the comfort of your own space while still receiving the support and guidance you need.

4. How do I know we’re a good fit?

It’s completely natural to have concerns about finding a therapist who is the right fit for you.

Compatibility is very important because therapy is a unique service that requires you to be vulnerable—a comfortable and supportive therapeutic environment is non-negotiable.

To ease any nervousness you may have, I offer an initial consultation where we can have a conversation and get to know each other better. During this time, we can discuss your specific needs, goals, and preferences for therapy.

I encourage my clients to use this opportunity to ask questions and assess whether our therapeutic styles and approaches align.

I believe in the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance, and if, for any reason, you feel that we are not a good fit, I will do my best to help you find a therapist who better meets your needs.

Ultimately, I aim to create a safe and collaborative space where you feel comfortable expressing yourself and working toward your well-being.

5. What is individual therapy like?

Individual therapy is a personal and confidential journey focused on your unique needs and goals.

During individual therapy sessions,  you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental space.

As a trained therapist, I offer guidance as we work collaboratively to gain deeper self-understanding, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth.

Individual therapy sessions may involve discussing your concerns, identifying patterns, setting goals, and engaging in various evidence-based techniques tailored to your specific needs. The therapeutic process is designed to support your well-being, enhance your resilience, and empower you to make positive changes in your life.

6. What is couples therapy like?

My goal for couple therapy is to help couples navigate relationship challenges and improve their overall connection.

When you book the first appointment, we’ll start by getting to know each other. We’ll also establish your individual and couple goals to establish structure and achievable objectives for our future sessions.

We’ll collaboratively work towards achieving constructive communication, helping you and your partner gain insight into relational dynamics and explore ways to address issues.

Together, you will work on enhancing your understanding of each other, improving communication skills, and developing strategies to resolve conflicts more effectively.

Couple therapy provides an opportunity to strengthen the emotional bond, rebuild trust, foster a healthier and more satisfying relationship, and cultivate a deeper connection and intimacy.

7. Do you also work with non-traditional couples?

Oh, absolutely. All couples are welcome. This includes:

  • Married couples
  • Non-married couples
  • Couples identifying as LGBTQ+
  • Couples practicing consensual non-monogamy, e.g., polyamory and ethical non-monogamy)

I am here to provide a safe and supportive environment for your therapeutic journey, whether you identify as a non-traditional couple or have a unique dynamic.

8. Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yes, what we discuss in therapy is strictly confidential. Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic process, and I prioritize your privacy and trust.

As a therapist, I adhere to professional ethics and legal guidelines to ensure the confidentiality of our sessions. This means that the information you share with me remains confidential, except in specific circumstances required by law, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

I create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself, knowing your personal information is confidential and treated with the utmost respect.
