An outside professional opinion that can help you break down the walls
“Sophie is a warm, caring, and knowledgeable professional who has helped me navigate difficult conversations and emotional challenges.”

Hello there! I’m Sophie Cress, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
I know…I know.
You might think therapy is akin to interrogation when I ask you a set of predetermined questions and scribble down notes as you respond. No! Let’s reserve that for movies. I’d want us to work collaboratively, so let me start by telling you about myself.
I’m a 34-year-old. Outside of my professional life,
- I’m a proud wife to Gary, with whom I’ve shared a beautiful marriage for 10 years.
- We are blessed with two adorable children, Ava and Dash.
- Oh, and then there’s Max, our lovable dog, who joins me during therapy sessions, offering comfort and support.
My journey in this field began long before I pursued formal education. Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I experienced moments of pain, confusion, hope, and resilience, which ignited my desire to ensure that everyone felt heard, understood, valued, and loved, regardless of their circumstances.
I am not only an ally but also deeply committed to providing a safe, affirming, and non-judgmental space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples. Additionally, as a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator, I offer premarital counseling to help couples lay a strong foundation for their journey together.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Certified Gottman Therapist (CGT), I’m here to walk you through life’s ups and downs, helping you navigate even the most complex challenges.
In my clinical practice, I draw upon my extensive training and experience.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master’s Degree in Couples & Family Therapy from Antioch University, New England.
With over 8 years as a psychotherapist and an additional 6 years providing community-based social services, I’ve worked with diverse clients in various settings, including hospitals, counseling centers, and even a prison.
My approach to therapy is tailored to meet your unique needs, always centered on your strengths and insights.
As a Certified Gottman Therapist, I incorporate the highly regarded Gottman Method Couples Therapy, a gold standard in the field, backed by over 40 years of research by Drs. John & Julie Gottman and their colleagues.
I continuously expand my knowledge and stay up-to-date with the latest techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes for my clients.
Starting from 2022 I am also a resident expert at company SexualAlpha and Biodenix.
Now, let’s embark on this journey together. We’ll work towards creating a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life for you and your loved ones.
